I’m resolving to lose weight. Now, let’s see how this holds up. *After I type this I MUST resume schoolwork, just an FYI* I’m trying to work it all out in detail NOW so that I know what I’ve got to do and how to get there. First, my goal is 3 lbs per week. People say 1-2 is healthy BUT if you’re a big girl weight comes off a LOT faster, especially when you go from a walking across campus daily lifestyle to walking across campus and exercising/working out too so in my mind it’s a workable goal. Right now my weight is 262 or so. Not good, at all. All during break I sat around doing a lot of nothing. About 1000 of my calories a day come from pop too, that’s got to stop. So here are my goals/method to working it.
- If I cut pop out altogether I WILL fail, no doubt. I’m restricting myself to 2 cans per day or one bottle, they’re equivalent so it’s roughly 300-350 calories from pop or “soda” as opposed to 1000 and then gradually reducing it to 1… and then eventually fruit juice (100%, no hi-c thanks) in it’s place
- Preparing breakfast the night before and keeping it to around 300-500 calories and drinking water
- Doing the same with lunch, especially because I’m on campus already. I have access to a microwave in the buildings so probably a soup or something like that b/c salad and I don’t get along. Pop will be drank here most likely. Maybe water since I’m on the go.
- I have limited prep over this but I’ll find what mom is cooking and modify it. If she’s making spaghetti, maybe i’ll buy some different sauce. If we’re having veggies, get a portion out BEFORE she puts a cup of butter in with them (ewwww). Just modify it to suit my lifestyle
- No more salty/chocolatey snacks. Trail mix, crackers, etc… all about moderation. I eat when bored.
- NO MORE FAST FOOD
I’m also going to buy myself a mini fridge next month with my student aid money in order to keep certain foods out of brothers’ and dad’s hands. Now that we’ve got how food is going to work… exercise? This is what I’m resolving to do as of right NOW, it’s dynamic though.
- I want a treadmill, it’s roughly $275 to buy one though so next month and PPP money perhaps to buy that. I hate being outside to exercise and it’s too cold. Then I’m going to begin with a mile a day and slowly work myself up to 5. Watch tv/listen to music during.
That’s all I’ve got for that right now. Any suggestions/tips/ideas (especially for quick on the go lunches)? I really want to do this. Ultimately I want to be under 200lbs and I’m doing this for myself. Randy wouldn’t care how I looked. As a reward/incentive I’m going to buy my custom built PC when I get under 225 and then under 200 I’m not sure… we’ll see.
Wish me luck girlies! ![]()

You seem like you’ve got the right ideas there, just jope you can stick to it. I know I couldn’t, but goodluck.
Oh, and completely off topic. You call “soda” pop, woohoo! Almost everyone I talk to online says soda, and when I say pop they’re like wtf? Yeah.. im reandom

I cut down on soda and lost a lot of weight. At he time, I didn’t change anything else about what I ate or drank, just the amount of soda I drank and the weight DROPPED off. It was amazing. I still allow myself to have a can every once in while, but I mostly stick to water.
My suggestion is to do what Mike and I are doing now. Don’t change how you eat just yet. Take the time to write down what you eat and how much of it you eat. Count the calories and fat content, if you can. Do it for a month. At the end of the month, go back over what you’ve eaten. If you see a bad trend in your eating habits, work on those first. After you work on that for awhile, say another month, start to change more and more things.
Starting off slow and working your way up to a healthier diet means that you’re more likely to stay on the healthy road and lose more weight. Weight that will stay off in the end, too.
I really want a treadmill, too. Have you been looking at any in particular? If so, pass your ideas along. I have no idea what I want. It’s driving me nuts. Haha.

Oh, and best of luck losing the weight! I’, rooting for you!

Good luck! I really need to get the treadmill from my mom… my butt should be moving, but I’m not going out to walk in this weather- the snow is over my ankles!
Quick on the go lunches? I take Lean Cuisines to work with me. They’re pretty good, and I’m picky. There are obviously kinds that hit the trash can pretty quick, but their pizzas, paninis, and most of the pastas are pretty good. I usually pair one of those with a big salad, and I’m good to go. Let me know if you find other good, on-the-go, take with you lunches… I’d like to find something that doesn’t require a microwave, personally.

Good luck with the weight loss, Manda!
Seems that a lot of people have decided to lose weight.
I haven’t posted my progress in a while, but that’s because I am lazy.
I’m rootin’ for ya, though. Make sure you have tons and tons of support from loved ones and of course, your Lavish girlies.

Go Manda! Perhaps I should join the weight loss bandwagon too.
I agree with Chrissy on the water thing, but cut down slowly as caffeine withdrawal is a BITCH.
Breakfast - I usually do instant oatmeal. Under 200 calories, less than 3 g of fat, and it keeps me full all morning. I tried the expert recommended protein, but I was always hungry way before lunch.
Lunch - I don’t have any great tips except to pack it the night before. If I don’t pack mine the night before, it’s a 50-50 chance I’ll pack it in the morning. If I pack it the night before, I’ll take it 100% of the time. Keeps me out of fast food places at lunch.
Supper - hard to manage, because you live at home, but I think you have some good ideas. I’m sure if you tell your mom what you’re doing, she’ll help ya out.
go manda! You can do it.

Thank you for your comment
Cutting out soda/pop really does help. I’ve switched from drinking 48oz+ of Dr Pepper a day to water and Sprite - WOW. The caffeine withdrawals suck to be honest, but it’s worth it. Combined with exercise and eating healthier - I’ve lost 20 pounds since the summer and it feels really good.
My ultimate goal is 40-50lbs more, but I’m not stressing myself out during school to drop weight or else. If it happens - okay, if not - that’s okay too.
I’m rooting for you

I just found your blog
I find it interesting about losing weight, since I’m doing the same as well. Sitting around and eating and not exercising really can do wonders to the body…
One suggestion–instead of going from soda to fruit juice, try going directly to water. Fruit juice isn’t a really good or healthy source since you don’t really get all that many nutrients from it–you get more sugar than anything else. I mean sure, it can be natural sugar, but it’s healthier to just eat the fruit instead of drinking the juice (since you get in more nutrients).
Oooh, where did you find a treadmill that is $275? I wanted to get a treadmill, and the cheapest I could find (that was automatic…hehe…due to laziness) was $999–well, that was apparently “good” quality (basically, my sister researched it). Which treadmill are you buying?

I saw your site from another so I thought why not stop by and read! I can really relate to what you are going through. I’m in the same boat. I wish you all the luck and determination in the world. It is not easy changing your eating habits but don’t think of it as a diet .. think of it as a lifestyle change. You’re changing to better youself.
Just a question .. have you considered Weight Watchers?? I joined recently and in two weeks have already lost 10 lbs. It works great and the good thing is you can EAT!! Even chocolate and soda! And if you can’t live without soda, diet soda or caffeine free diet soda is a good alternative!
Well, I hope you reach your goal! There’s no doubt you can if you set your mind to it! If you ever have any questions about WW, let me know. I’d love to talk to someone in the same boat as me!
Take care!!

I lost 10 pounds by witching to diet soda. If you want quick lunches, piece of cellery, carrots.

Just be thankful that you don’t down 3 2L bottles of soda a day. I do that and besides the expense, I get the feeling it is pretty unhealthy.
Sean: Why not just go all the way to water if you are going to be drinking something that tastes like camel’s piss? Soda was meant to be enjoyed. On a diet? Water is much more effective.
