The car diagnosis is…. *dies a little inside*

Well mom and I took the car to get looked at today and well… let’s say we’re a little less than pleased at the price. She needs the back brakes replaced, the front suspension needs work including the tierod, alignment, etc… Overall the cost of this is going to be $918 to get everything back in order. After that she also needs her NYS inspection before the 31st AND 2 back tires to be purchased, mounted, and balanced. There goes the tax return… seems like every year the car needs major work around this time. :’( At least we can look on the bright side that she IS getting a return of close to or over $5k so we can afford it but it’s still kinda shoddy. She was going to spend some on herself (which she doesn’t do very often) and splurge on a laptop. I hope she can still swing it, she needs her own computer.

On a different note we hit up dollar general after that and got 4 boxes of glass Christmas bulbs (green, red, silver, gold) marked for $5/each but 75% off made them $1.25/each and you can’t beat that. We also got Christmas cards for $.50. We’ve been stocking up for next year. :)

Less than 4 more days until I’m back with his arms around me… specifically 86 hours give or take an hour for processing ;) Wahooooooo, I cannot WAIT. Otherwise I’m doing great emotionally. I miss him but i’m still coming into accepting it. One day at a time, one step at a time.

Audio Advertising

There are ads galore on the internet whether they’re still, flash, quiet, or loud. You might even get those annoying ones that have flying things coming out of them making it difficult to continue what you originally came to the website for. Those are the most irritating in my opinion but people, especially big sites, use them because revenue is obtained through them and it takes money to run a big site.

I’ve learned of a different form of advertising now, called Net Audio Ads. I think they might be a bit more promising for those of you who have advertisements because you’re not only paid on click thru but for each and every visitor, so you’re paid based on traffic instead of how many times someone decides to be nice or interested in the product. It’s sponsored by Pay-Per-Play and is absolutely free to join so it’s a decent way to get into the scheme I suppose.

I’m not interested in putting up prominent ads on my site, especially ones that play sound because I know as a web surfer I often listen to music when I browse but to each their own. I know hosting for my little website is rather cheap but if I had a site with a lot of videos, pictures, and sounds then I’d need more storage and bandwidth. It’s quite pricey so if that is your cup of tea and way to keep the site up and going, all the power to you.

Job search mania

Posted in Work by Manda | No Comments »

Ok I buckled down tonight in the job search and this is what I managed to do.

  • Apply to 2 medical office jobs, receptionist positions by sending out a cover letter/resume
  • Apply to a receptionist position at another company which is slipping my mind at the moment
  • Apply for a CSR position at the company my cousin works at, it’s an impound/salvage yard
  • Home Depot, Flying J, Travel Centers of America, Alpine Access, Ficarella’s Pizzeria all have applications

I’m sick of filling out information about myself. AGH. No more resumes, work history, education history, etc for me thanks. I hope after this I’ll at least get SOMETHING. There IS a babysitting job I could have but she wants me from 2:30am-6:30am and 2:30pm-6:30pm and only wants to pay $1.50/hr since it’s a 13 year old boy. Um… no? Seriously, that’s ridiculous. It’d cost more in gas to drive there than she’d be paying.

Yawp Box

The internet has expanded from an information area to pretty much anything that you can imagine from social networking to dating, gaming, information, etc.. If you can find it off the internet you can probably find it on the internet as well. One thing that I’ve noticed in the past couple months and maybe even year or so is the increase of user created videos from singing to dancing, talking, experiments, etc… People like to talk about themselves and another arena for this that focuses on people sharing life experiences is YawpBox.

You can find a variety of topics that are awaiting user submitted videos like “Have you ever had a mullet?”, “Your best sports experience”, or even the best tattoo you have. There are a plethora of areas that will fit anyone’s lifestyle. There was this one video that was share your worst hair day and they had this baby a few months old I’d imagine in a wig that was pretty extreme. That poor poor child, you can see their misery here.

They even have a 30 minute weekly television show that airs and is 100% user submitted content so your video could even end up on TV. That’s pretty cool if I do say so myself. It’s not everyday you get the opportunity to get the chance to get YOUR video on national television so every opportunity is one that should be maximized. There is this thing called the Lex and Terry challenge as well which is the topics they most want to see for the live show. Check it out and see if any of them fit your life and if so, make a video and give yourself a shot to be on the show!

Wacky sleep schedule, job application

Let’s see if I can muster up an entry here to keep with the blog every day deal. I’ve been sleeping a lot lately but not on a normal schedule. I don’t like getting up at noon but it’s what I end up doing because I’m up late until 2-3am. Bah.

So far today has consisted of eating breakfast at noon, watching a soap opera, and killing time on the internet. I also showered and will be going with mom tonight to apply at the pizza place that is hiring which I saw in Friday’s daily news. Maybe I’ll get something. Anything is a job right now, money is my #1 stressor.

On the Randy front I’m doing pretty good. I think I’ve come to accept that he’s gone and not coming back anytime soon in my mind and I have to just deal with it. The visits every 2 weeks will be enough to keep us going. I just have to think of all those people who have military deployments and such and have to go months without seeing their loved ones. I have to go 2 weeks and I get 6 hours of time with him. Then he’ll be home for good you know?
