Scouring through old VCR tapes makes me appreciate technology like satellite communications

I’m sitting here going through old VCR tapes looking for an old movie that I taped on Lifetime like… 10 years ago minimum. I managed to do that yesterday with a different one after only 2 attempts. Then I recorded it to DVD but THAT took 3 attempts because occasionally the tape went out from a bad part on the track and it made my DVD go haywire so one DVD has 3 different tracks on it that is really one movie. It’s so interesting to see what movies we taped and stuff. Having to rewind and fast forward tapes makes me so grateful for things like satellite communications, high speed internet, DVD players, and a lot more things that we see nowadays as necessities instead of luxuries only. Computers come to mind mainly.

So night turned out pretty well I think. We had some ice cream cake, looked at old VCR tapes and I found a music video of TLC performing “No scrubs” along with Eminem’s “guilty Conscience” and BSB “I want it that way” and thought wtf kind of music is this? I actually LOVED this stuff back then? Then I smiled and was glad that I was able to laugh at this kind of stuff and have the ability to do and be amused by simple things like that. Hope was laughing along with me because we were friends back then and liked this kinda stuff too.

Now? I have about 6 winecoolers in me and I’m feeling airy. I need to stay up uber late so I can sleep late tomorrow and handle work tomorrow evening. Fun wow? I think I’ll be playing either warcraft or the sims all night long. Guess we’ll see, right? Either way it’s $$ in my pocket. My new goal to see Randy is June 1st b/c next weekend is memorial day weekend so that’s probably a big bzzzt for having off. I ONLY want Saturday night off.. I’ll work the rest. Maybe I’ll see what I can do. He’s going nuts and I miss him like crazy. It’s been 3 weeks on Sunday.

No sad thoughts… need to remain HAPPY my Jamaican me happy winecoolers say.

I need a mega vacation

Now that we’re not going to Splash Lagoon until later (if we go at ALL) I really am hoping some type of vacation of sorts gets mentioned somewhere. I’d like to get out. I mean I felt so good getting out and even going to the park like that but imagine if went somewhere to be comfortable and had fun. I went to Maryland and had fun sort of but it was an unfamiliar environment and we didn’t really DO much so it somewhat sucked. I wouldn’t mind going to TN where I had a blast or even West Virginia since I have family and lots of fun there too. If I was going somewhere unfamiliar I’d want to go and hit up somewhere really warm and near the beach and maybe even check out a Florida villa while I’m down that way. Someone could be renting theirs out for the summer and it’d be a lot more fun to stay there than in a hotel. Maybe I’d go to California although Florida would be much cheaper. Either coast would be fine, I’d just like to see the ocean sometime.

Today is SUPPOSED to be refreshing and calm because it’s Hope’s Birthday and stuff. We got an ice cream cake today and the numbers 2 and 3 to put on it and she got the price is right DVD game and was entertained for quite awhile. We’ve also got some wine coolers to have fun with tonight. Jamaican me happy and wild berry. They’re yummylicious! I can’t wait. We’ll probably dive into them soon but right now we’re waiting a bit while I do my online stuff like checking on boards, email, all that good stuff. I’m also working on getting my laptop all back up to par. I took out Vista Ultimate and put premium back in because Ultimate was giving me mega issues and my Vaio actually came stock with that. So I just put the drivers back in and will be installing a few games to keep my happy little butt busy at work for the next 3 days. I’m thinking the Sims 2 actually…

Social Spark is Live and Public

I think I’ve mentioned this before but did you know that SocialSpark is now officially released to everyone in the public? That’s right, no more invite only registrations and you can now see it all live in action! It’s a BIG change from PayPerPost if you currently use that. Both PPP and Social Spark are managed by Izea inc. but Social Spark is NOT PPP’s replacement. It operates independently. The interface is completely different and so are the options to customize.

It’s a new environment to get accustomed to, I will say that. It’s a lot busier and more colorful than I’m used to. You can do posts basic called sponsored posts, sparks which are posted by bloggers and the majority are you write about me and I’ll link you back, and blog sponsorship which usually pays a bit more (and per day) but it has these HUGE display banners that pop up for all your visitors and say “This blog is sponsored by so and so”. I personally won’t use them, I think my readers would get quite irritated with that and I don’t want to drive them away.

They also allow you to create a public profile where you can share your picture, interests, location, and even friend other bloggers so it’s more about social networking and such than just a sponsored blogging site. That’s a pretty nifty feature I think and you can see mine which I linked above although it’s not too in depth yet. I haven’t spent too much time on that just yet.

There are a few cons which are driving me away from it a bit and it’s why I haven’t full on jumped on the bandwagon. The opportunities ALL require you to wait for it to be reserved for you which is nice in that you don’t have to wait for them all to open like hawks BUT they will email you at midnight when it’s reserved and say you have 12 hours to make the post. Excuse me? I work 11pm-7am and I sleep until 2-3pm. That kicks me right out the door. I’m not going to force myself to blog that early just to meet a deadline like that. I think you should be given 24 hours because some people aren’t on the computer during that time period. Things happen and I’ve personally lost out on 3 opportunities already that way out of the 6 or so I was given since I joined. I really hope that gets modified shortly. Or you could specify a time in which you’d like to be notified. I wouldn’t mind if my 12 hours started at noon and I had until midnight to do so.

Otherwise I’ll keep my eye on it and see how it takes off. I think it’s got great potential.
